I Can Pretend

My kids have really been into playing "house" lately.

There are three main reasons I'm not such a huge fan of the game.

Reason #1: Whenever my kids play house, someone pretends to be a baby. And that baby always cries. A lot. I have enough crying at my house. I don't need someone to pretend too. It hurts my ears.
Reason #2: The "mom" and "dad" are always saying things like this to the "children."

"STOP THAT! GO TO SLEEP! DON'T CRY! I SAID RIGHT NOW! DON'T YOU DARE! GET IN BED!"

Now where in the world did they get the idea that is how parents talk to their kids? gulp.

Reason #3: It's confusing for me. I can never figure out who my kids are talking to when they are saying, "mom. Mom. MOM!"

When I do answer them, I usually get this: "No Mom. YOU'RE the daughter."

Oh. I'm the daughter. Does that mean that I get to lay around all day, watch cartoons, get fed, eat popsicles, not do laundry or dishes, and take a nap?

Hmmmm. Maybe I like this game of house after all!

I heard Jaxon tell my twins:

"I really suggest that you stop fighting."

When they didn't stop, he said,

"You march straight to your rooms young ladies!

And they did.

It gives me a complex when my boys imitate me too. Can't they remember the good things? Geez!

That's so funny! (yes my computer savvy husband is home and he fixed my commenting problem) It really is embarrassing when my children imitate my faulty side. Not that I have one of course. :)

very very funny...
parker does the same thing, talking to her "pretend mom" and i always answer and she is always so exasperated with me... like, "real mom, don't you get it? i'm not talking to you!"

it's so cute, though, to see them playing together!

They have "good imaginations"?!?!? At least they can play well together! I SURE DO MISS THEM! Please smother them with Grandma kisses and hugs!

It gives me a weird sense of satisfaction when my kids play house and yell at each other. Tells me that I'm a good disciplinarian.

Or when my kids imitate a crying kid, to make them mad. #1--making them cry louder #2--again, with the "we already have plenty of crying". And my kids confuse me with the "mom" thing, too. And they act like I'm so dumb that I didn't know already that I wasn't the mom they were referring to.

They surely are the "great pretenders"! That is so good they play with each other so well! I am sure they will always be very close growing up! Pretty soon, Meg will be joining them in all their p-tending, as Sirri used to say!
Love you!

Why do they always have to have a crying baby when playing house? Or a baby? My four-year old has been stuck in baby mode for about a week now and it is driving me NUTS. When I ask him to stop, he tells me he is just playing house and it's just PRETEND. Enough of the baby stuff already!!!

I love this post! I love it!

I love the picture of the, "baby" in her drawer crib.

I also love the, "gulp"! I have had a few gulp moments myself.

The other day Brian had his hands on his hips as he scolded his brother and said things like, "I am not kidding...NOW!" whoopsie daisy...

My daughter would say "I'm the mom and you're the sweetie" then she'd yell and boss me around. At least she remembered the sweetie part!

I'm so glad you commented on the "mom, Mom," part. I don't play house with them, but accidentally answer when they are playing too. The only game I will play is hide and seek and I can hide under my covers. They now have the "no hiding in your bed, mom" rule so now I refuse to play.

Bea's Barbies spend a lot of time in time out. I'm sure they yelled at their mommy or something.

Girl, I'm trying to update the blog directory. E-mail me your bio. Just 3-5 things about you.

Thanks!

My 4 year old yells at her dolls like that. Then I feel like such a terrible mom! But then she will love on them and do their hair and then I think Phew! At least she got some kind of postive example from me!

At first I was like, "What?! She doesn't like house?" It just so happened to be my favorite pasttime as a kid, so no wonder I'm thrilled when my kids engage in it. But then, after reading the rest of the post I was like, "Oh, yeah. Totally...Why do I like house anyway?" :0)
